Kastamonu sent over 300 tons of waste for recycling

On the Environmental Education Day, which is celebrated in Russia, Belarus and other CIS countries in May, Kastamonu summed up the results of environmental policy implementation. In 2022, the Company sent for recycling more than 300 tons of polyethylene and plastic waste, ferrous and non-ferrous scrap, as well as paper and cardboard.

According to the Company's experts, in 2022 Kastamonu sent for recycling 317.3 tons of waste, including polyethylene and plastic waste – 52.6 tons, ferrous and non-ferrous scrap – 123.9 tons, paper and cardboard waste – 140.8 tons. Moreover, 137,000 tons of wood waste were utilized directly at the production site (93.6% of the total volume of waste generation). The equipment installed at the plant allows the Company to independently burn wood waste without causing harm to the environment. New generation treatment facilities provide a closed cycle of technical water circulation at the enterprise. All this helps save natural resources, as the energy obtained during waste processing is used in production processes.

“For our Company, the principle of careful attitude to raw materials is of high priority. Therefore, all processes at the enterprise are organized according to the principle of a minimum impact cycle. This task is ensured by sorting, collecting and recycling the maximum possible amount of waste. We send more than 90% of wood waste for processing and return the outcome to production. As part of the environmental protection policy, the Company regularly assesses environmental risks and takes all necessary measures to prevent them. The goal of our environmental policy is to ensure environmental safety by minimizing the negative impact on the environment,” said Ali Kılıç, CEO of Kastamonu Russia.

Disposal of waste that cannot be recycled or used for energy generation in compliance with requirements of the environmental legislation is carried out in a manner and ways that do not harm the environment and human health. All Kastamonu manufacturing plants have been certified in accordance with ISO 14 001 Environmental Management System Standard. As part of the environmental management system, the Company regularly conducts trainings of all employees on waste management.

The Company's environmental policy involves financing of environmental protection measures. In 2022, 40 events were implemented to protect atmospheric air, water resources, soil and land resources, and provide environmental waste management. Besides, Kastamonu supports and promotes the idea of timber certification under the Timber Standard - this gives the right to guarantee that the raw materials used come from environmentally responsible timber producers, controlled sources, recycled materials or a combination of the above.
