Laminate Flooring Guide – Beveled Type vs. Non-Beveled Type?

Laminate flooring is a type of floor covering made by coating both sides of a high-density fiberboard (HDF) panel with special materials such as decorative paper, protective film, and balancing paper. These products offer an interior solution that is both economical and aesthetically pleasing. Laminate flooring comes in two types: with bevel and without bevel. It provides solutions for a wide range of needs through hundreds of different designs and surface options. The differences between beveled and non-beveled laminate affect the overall look and feel of the interior. Therefore, it is important to consider them when choosing laminate flooring.

What is non-beveled laminate flooring?

Non-beveled laminate flooring is a type of floor covering where there are no visible grooves or edges between the planks, resulting in a seamless and smooth surface after installation. The planks fit tightly together, making the joints almost unnoticeable. This feature creates a minimalist atmosphere and gives a sense of continuity, especially in smaller spaces. Additionally, choosing light-colored non-beveled laminate flooring can make a room appear more spacious and open. Collections such as Floorpan Classic, Floorpan Fix, and Floorpan Sun in light tones from Kastamonu contribute to a cozy and inviting look in your home.

What is beveled laminate flooring?

Bevel is an aesthetic solution that is frequently used in laminate flooring. Bevels in laminate flooring are V-shaped chamfered recesses. Beveled laminate flooring has no physical gap at the joints like ceramic and tiled surfaces, creating a hollow air in appearance.  This characteristic helps the laminate flooring create a sense of depth on the floor, giving living spaces a dynamic and vibrant look. The Petra Oak Laminate Flooring from Kastamonu’s Floorpan Sunex range adds an aesthetic and luxurious touch to your living space with its rich texture and deep appearance created by its grooved structure.

Offering a unique elegance with its large dimensions, Kastamonu’s other beveled laminate flooring range Floorpan Street brings dynamism to the spaces with its design and creates a feeling of spaciousness and freedom at every step.

How to Care for Beveled and Non-Beveled Laminate Flooring

As with all types of laminate flooring, the most important rule for caring for beveled laminate is to lift objects rather than drag them across the floor. This prevents scratches and wear on the surface. Laminate flooring, whether beveled or non-beveled, is easy to clean with a damp cloth.

Dirt accumulation on beveled laminate is not significantly different from that on standard laminate, thanks to the special coatings used in the bevels. The surfaces are smooth and do not allow dirt to gather. Maintaining beveled laminate is similar to cleaning tiled floors with grout lines—under normal use, the bevels remain clean, and regular cleaning with a vacuum or lightly damp cloth is sufficient to keep them looking like new for a long time. During routine cleaning, dirt particles deeper than 1 mm can be easily removed with a vacuum. When wet cleaning with a microfiber mop or cloth, the floor should be wiped along the length of the bevels to ensure all dirt is fully removed.

Advantages of Using Beveled Laminate Flooring

  • Beveled laminate flooring offers clear advantages over non-beveled options. The presence of a bevel minimizes the chances of two major visual defects that can occur during use: dirty joints between laminate planks (especially noticeable in lighter shades) and worn edges of the planks caused by moisture after cleaning. In both cases, the bevel makes these defects invisible or nearly invisible. Additional advantages of beveled laminate include:
  • It imitates natural floorboards, thanks to the clearly defined boundaries of the laminate panels.
  • The bevel visually expands the room in which the flooring is installed.
  • With factory-made bevels, the so-called “edge lifting” is almost invisible, effectively extending the lifespan of the laminate flooring.
  • Visual defects, such as raised edges due to prolonged moisture exposure, are concealed.
  • Minor imperfections during installation can be hidden visually.
  • It adds elegance and style to your floor and overall interior design

Advantages of Using Non-Beveled Laminate Flooring

Depending on the brand and model, non-beveled laminate flooring can be more affordable than beveled options. It also has the advantage of making living spaces appear wider and more open, especially in narrow rooms.

Floorpan laminate flooring is a safe choice for residential spaces due to its excellent properties, such as easy cleaning, scratch resistance, and HYGIENE +. Using the “Design It Yourself” feature of Kastamonu’s “Let’s Design” application, you can experience the harmony between beveled and non-beveled laminate flooring, which suits all tastes and complements your furniture in your living spaces.
