The launch of the books was marked by a special event hosted at Yapı Kredi Culture and Arts Center.
Panel discussion draws strong interest
Revolving around the theme of “Three Books, One Architect: Nevzat Sayın”, the launch event featured a bull session between skilled architect and author Nevzat Sayın and Prof. Tansel Korkmaz, a prominent expert in architectural history, theory, and criticism. The event, which was attended by leading figures from the architectural community, academics, and young professionals, created a platform for discussing architectural thinking and practice within an integrated framework.
Speaking at the event, Kastamonu Entegre’s Manager of Architect and Designer Relations, Gözde Doğramacılar, emphasized that architecture is not only a technical field but also an intellectual one, and said, “We are delighted to help these books come to life. For us, it’s not only about producing materials, but also about being part of producing ideas. Any initiative that supports the professional and intellectual development of young architects is not just something to be encouraged - it is a responsibility.” Highlighting that a sustainable future is only possible through knowledge, experience, and the sharing of that experience, Doğramacılar continued: “Nevzat Sayın’s books are powerful examples of this act of sharing. With a style that is both simple and profound, they demonstrate not only how buildings are created, but how ways of thinking can be constructed as well.”
Three books, three periods, one architectural vision
The three books published with the support of Kastamonu Entegre represent a significant body of work documenting Nevzat Sayın’s architectural practice.
The newly released “What Is to Be Done?” focuses on the relationship between architectural design and construction know-how. Centered around the transformation of boiler houses 4-6 at the SantralIstanbul campus into a faculty of architecture, the book details the entire journey from concept to execution. This work serves as a practical guide for young architects, addressing the building process in all aspects.
“Dreams Thoughts Works - 1990-2004”, which presents Sayın’s early projects, explores the intersection of imaginative thinking and built structures through drawings, documents, and photographs. The book shares the underlying architectural approach behind various projects ranging from the Colossus Hotel to Yahşibey Houses.
“Thoughts/Works - 2004-2018”, which examines the balance between theoretical architecture and practical application, offers rich insights into the reflective dimension of architecture through key projects such as Izmir Opera House and Ataşehir Finance Center.
Supported by Kastamonu Entegre as part of its commitment to cultural and intellectual production, this trilogy of publications is set to inspire a wide audience from architecture students to experienced professionals.
